Roles of the President

  • Chief of State-This role requires the president to be a great example to others, the president is a living symbol of the nation. In other countries the chief of state is usually a king of queen.
  • Chief Executive- The president is in charge of millions of government workers in the Executive branch and decides how laws should be enforced.
  • Chief Diplomat- The president makes the foreign policy for the United States. Also he decides what ambassadors and diplomats will says to foreign governments.
  • Commander-in-Chief-The president is in charge of the U.S. armed forces: the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines.
  • Chief Legislator- The constitution gives the president the power to influence Congress to pass certain bills.
  • Chief of Party-The president helps members of his political party get elected or appointed to office.
